The Mysterious Doll in Audible Books by Linda Weaver Clarke

The Mysterious Doll by Linda Weaver Clark is book four of the Amelia Moore Detective stories.  In this story, a porcelain doll turns up missing from a museum case.  The obvious culprit appears to be Sam, an engaged museum employee who suddenly turns up missing at the same time as the doll.

Sam's fiance hires Amelia and her partner Rick to find Sam and to prove his innocence.  Amelia and Rick are followed at every corner and try to dodge the men that always seem to be after them.  Will they be able to find Sam and prove that he was not guilty of the theft and also figure out why so many people seem to be inquiring about the doll?  Is the doll worth enough to be of such great interest to several people?  What is the real secret behind the mysterious doll?

This was a fun read and I enjoyed it very much. But because this was an Audible book, I had the freedom of listening while driving and commuting to work and elsewhere.  Diane Lehman is a great narrator and I love her interpretation of the characters in the book. I think you will enjoy the other books in this cozy mystery series, as well.  Amelia and Rick seem to be getting closer as the series continue and some romance is definitely in the air.

I was given a copy of the ebook from the author for my review, which I have given.

The Quieting by Suzanne Woods Fisher

The Quieting was right up my alley!  Why?  Because it was about GENEALOGY! And it was AMISH.  What combination would I love better than that.  I actually had written to several Amish authors suggesting a genealogy theme because I personally have done quite a bit of Amish and Mennonite research as a part of my occupation as a professional German genealogist.  Their genealogy that I personally researched was fascinating and I love how Ms. Fisher wove it into the theme of a great story.  It's been something I have been totally watching and waiting to see happen.  I am glad it did!

I really enjoyed the characters in the story and the events that took place up to the time of the "Quieting" or the revocation of ministerial positions.  This was a great book and I am so glad I was able to read it!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

Deep Shadows by Vannetta Chapman

I loved it!  Okay, so the description said that this book was "dystopian" and to be honest I didn't have a clue what that meant.  I had to look it up and now I know.  But if you don't know, I will let you look it up for yourself.

This is one book that makes you wonder if you are prepared for what tomorrow may bring into your life.  It definitely made me wonder and I thought that I was "prepared".  Now, not so sure.  This book will make you think and contemplate what the future has in store, how people will react and who is in charge?

I am not giving away any surprises in this book, but this is definitely one of the author's finest works. I highly recommend this book!

About the book: Prince Garin is a brave, proud, adventure-seeking prince. Elani is his most trusted servant and she would do anything for him, even die for him. Their quest to find the mystical Treasure of Isian is immediately interrupted and they find themselves confronted by angry giants, soul-stealing elves, betwitched dragons, a vengeful water-witch, battling foes, and a mysterious kingdom. Elani must face her greatest fears to save her prince and her kingdom. Garin must decide what the most important things are in his life. Will they be able to make a great sacrifice to save the kingdom? And will Elani find true love? Become lost in the adventure, love, loyalty, and mystery of The Treasure of Isian!

The synopsis is very accurate and a good description of the story.  I loved the fact that it was "Audible" and I could close my eyes and have sometime tell me a fun story with no effort on my part at all.  I really enjoyed it and Ms. Clarke chose a great narrator that definitely was enjoyable to listen to.  I recommend this book and was happy that I had an opportunity to listen.

Disclosure:  I received an Audible version of this book for my review.

The Family Guide to Aging Parents by Carolyn Rosenblatt, RN.

Now this a different book for me, but when I received a gift card to Deseret Book and went there to shop, I saw this and since I am in this situation, I felt it would perhaps have some good advice for me. And it did.  I now am a bit more aware of things I need to do or consider as my mother ages.  I think it is good to have a reference to turn to because it is not always easy to know what to do, when to do it and how to go about doing some things.

This book written by an RN and an Elder Law Attorney had many good items to consider as parents age and are no longer as capable as they once were.  I highly recommend this book and will have my mother read it also.  Want to cover all the bases!

The Courageous Brides Collection by Various Authors

Nine historical novellas of women who face life head-on, with faith and courage.  I really enjoyed the nine different stories of strong women in situations that test their abilities, their faith and each is different and unique.

They each have a different story to tell about their lives is their beautiful historical settings in the 1800s.  Being as they are novellas and not full length, it was nice to be able to read an enjoyable story of a shorter length when time was a bit limited.

Each woman shows strength and dedication as she tries to serve others and help those who need her help.  I enjoyed this series and would probably enjoy other books from these authors, many of whom I was unfamiliar wth.

I received an ebook version of this collection from Netgalley for review.
