The Light Before Day by Suzanne Woods Fisher

This was an amazing book from a super-talented author.  The author has done a fantastic research work of a time period in the early years of our country.  The journal that appears in each of the books of the series, gives wonderful insights on the thoughts of Mary Coffin Starbuck.  And holds some important secrets.

Henry and Hitty Macy are siblings that have just inherited all of their grandmother's estate, but with many specifications which are difficult to abide by and absolutely required.  The requirements are many and both must accept them or not receive this inheritance.  Will they be able to keep those requirements?  And how will this estate affect the future on the Island?

The author does a fabulous job on this book.  It is full of history and the characters are wonderful and continued through the series.  It is probably best to read the entire series, yet the author does discuss people from previous books to bring the reader to understanding of their roles and refresh your mind, if you have read the other books.

A great read.  I love all of the books of the series!

Calming Angry Kids by Tricia Goyer

So first let me say the cover is exactly perfect--a whirling tornado.  I think as parents we have all experienced the angry little and not so little tornados that live in our homes.  This author is wonderful at helping others by sharing her personal experiences of life and what she has learned both through personal prayer and the help of others, including professionals in various fields.

I love how she incorporates prayer and those professionals and comes out with a better outcome than by only following one course.

This book gathers all her best experiences, tips and advice that she's learned through her own life's paths.  Angry Kids are often very challenging to parents, causing stress amongst themselves and all that are around them.  The book is full of suggestions that are tried and true.  And of course all kids are different but I am certain that there will be something that will touch the heart of your angry child.

One subject she touched upon that I know can be a big determining factor is that we may follow a parental cycle that our parents used, which may not have been the best answer and we need to check ourselves before repeating that cycle to see if that is only our lack of control or really the best thing to do.

Good advice, good book and lots to learn from.

The Cumberland Bride by Shannon McNear

So I read this book quickly!  Not because it was short, but because it was quite riveting and kept me wanting to know what happened next.  I really enjoyed it and also have enjoyed the previous books of this series.  It's a great historical series and each book makes me hope the next one will be coming soon.

Kate Gruener, daughter of a Mayflower mom and a Hessian Mercenary soldier is heading through the Cumberland Gap.  Not an easy journey for a proper gal.  As she meets and comes to know their guide, Thomas Bledsoe, adventure and danger seems around each corner.

I know that if you are a reader of historical fiction, this will be a book you will love.

The First Love by Beverly Lewis

The author wrote the first Amish book I ever read and from that day on, I was hooked!  And I have never looked back.  It's an amazing book and the storyline about the Tent Revival meetings is classic.  I loved the book and will keep reading every book I can get my hands on.  Such an inspiration!  Trust, love of family...just great.

Imagine The Fall of Jericho by Matt Koceich

This is a book geared for youth ages 8-12.  As I started reading it, however, it drew me in as well.  I wanted to see what happened to Jake Henry in his unexpected adventure.  And it was an adventure story of a time travel type as he goes from a world of social networking and kid's video games and summer camp back to ancient history.

I think this is a good way to engage young people in history and in the Bible.  With those video games these days it is often hard to tear them away and focus on other things.  This book might just help parents divert their attention.

The Rancher's Fake Fiancee by Amy Vastine

I have recently reviewed two books from this series and I loved it.  Sweet romance, interesting characters and a continuing storyline with previous characters interacting with the main characters.  I like the continuity although written by different authors.

This is the first book I have read from this author.  She's good.  I liked her style and enjoyed the read!

The main Blackwell in this book is Tyler and he returns to Montana telling his family he is bringing his fiancee, although she is actually his employee.  Hadley agrees to this only with the hopes of a promotion in the process.  But as her feelings change, how will she deal with the fake engagement.

This was a really fun read.  And I can't wait to read the rest of this series!

I received an ebook copy from the author.  I was not required to post a postive review.  All thoughts are my own.

A Wells Landing Christmas by Amy Lillard

I loved returning to Wells Landing and spotting some old friends and embracing the lives of some new ones.  This was such a heartwarming story and deals with a couple that made mistakes and needs forgiveness both from one another and from God and their own self.  It shows we are loved by God and will be forgiven for our mistakes.

I love how Ivy found an outlet and friend at the care center.  She felt that she couldn’t join the church because of her past and has a hard time to go through whatever steps she had to go through to rectify her situation, feeling that everyone would reject her.
This was a great read.  It was a hard to put down book.  It was a moving and touching story.  I loved it.  It was good like all the books this author writes.  They are all good.

Rockstar Grandparent by Chrys Howard

Ah, this is a fun and interesting book for the baby boomer generation.  Lots of  ideas, thoughts and ways to communicate and be involved in the life of your grands.  I totally enjoyed it and it was also quite entertaining to me.

Our roles have changed but it is still really important to be a part of their lives and  help and even mediate as needed.  Great book, great advice and fun to read.

The Christmas Remedy by Cindy Woodsmall and Erin Woodsmall

Well, I love Amish fiction and I love Christmas books.  So for me this was a great combo.  Holly Noelle Zook works at a pharmacy and this is not your typical Amish occupation.  But she tries to help her Amish people to get the help they need before things are too late and so she feels that this is her path for life.  Not wanting the married, stay at home life she is expected to have.

This is a very interesting book with some mystery, romance and the combination of Cindy and Erin Woodsmall seems to work very well in this book.

One Last Dance by Linda Weaver Clarke

When Felicity arrives at home after her father's passing, she finds her mother's new and somewhat mysterious neighbor who her mother has befriended and seems to have plans for.

This book has some romance, and some mystery and is a historical novel, starting out in the 1830's.  I enjoyed this book and the characters very much.  It's a sweet and clean book and is a great read.  I am sure you will love it, too!

This Courageous Journey by Misty M. Beller

Beautiful cover!  And the book is great!  Its book 4 of 4 in the Heart of the Mountains series.  This book is about a young woman traveling through the Canadian Mountains with a guide.  They experience some amazing things and their courage to continue is incredible.

I have read the other books in this series and couldn't wait to read this one.  I absolutely loved it, the pioneering time period and their adventures that brought them together.  I highly recommend this book, it was wonderful!

Ours For a Season by Kim Vogel Sawyer

This is the first book I have read from this author.  I must say. she is a really good writer!

This story of Mennonite Marty and her husband and her non-Mennonite friend, Brooke is so different!  A breath of fresh air, for sure.

The story covers some difficult topics and the author does that very well.

As Marty's husband Anthony and his crew set out to help Brooke with her ghost town project, some really interesting surprises happen, and you can't stop reading this fascinating story.

I have a childhood fascination with ghost towns so this story grabbed me and kept me reading.  You will love it as you read how they learn about God's paths for them.  Really great read.
