An Amish Quilting Bee By Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller, Shelley Shepard Gray

When was the last time you read a story that made you smile and just feel good at the end?  That's what this book did for me. The book contains three unique and different stories that revolve around a quilting theme.  The stories were of different characters, different locations and all were sweet romances.  These were written by some very talented Amish writers that I have been familiar with for many years.  They have kept me reading and enjoying Amish fiction for a very long while.

After I finished the last story, I felt happy and I realized that in each of the stories, there was no super amazing thing that happened, they were all stories of ordinary people doing ordinary things, but written so that the stories were interesting and captivating and made me smile.  It was a very pleasing book and if you want to read an enjoyable and relaxing book, this book is for you.

Amidst Trials, is there a Light at the end of the Tunnel? Guest Post by Linda Weaver Clarke

All of us have challenges in our lives and we feel so alone. We sometimes wonder if we are the only ones who are experiencing difficulties. Have you ever felt that each trial you have endured was so difficult that you wondered where the “light at the end of the tunnel” was? Many times we try to solve our own problems and don’t bother talking to anyone or asking for help.

“No matter our circumstances, no matter our challenges or trials, there is something in each day to embrace and cherish. There is something in each day that can bring gratitude and joy if only we will see and appreciate it.” ~ Dieter F. Uchtdorf

This was Hannah’s attitude as she tried to search for the “light at the end of the tunnel.” How many times do we search for that light, wondering where it is and hoping that the trials in life will soon end? Is God watching over us? Is He there when we need some comfort? In our darkest moment, does Jesus Christ know how we feel? I believe He does.

Set in 1844, The Light at the End of the Tunnel is a historical romance. Book Reviewer and Author Gail Pallotta wrote: “This romance wrapped around my heart as it took me into the struggles of Hannah, such a brave woman. The characters come to life on the page as Thomas falls for Hannah. However, Hannah is caught up in her day-to-day trials, and with her independent streak she only thinks of making a life for her and her daughter. Can Thomas get her attention and change her mind?”

After coming to America and enduring several challenges and trials, Hannah realizes she can make something of her life by opening a hot chocolate shop. She soon finds that starting her own business isn’t as easy as she thought.

When Thomas finds out that Hannah's shop is struggling, he comes to the rescue with a clever plan. Will she agree to such an unconventional idea? Can he convince her to find room in her heart for one more person?

“I enjoyed this sweet historical romance very much.  This story shows the western spirit of adventure in a young widow who has faced many hardships to come to this point.  This is a Christian book and a very engaging and enjoyable read. You will enjoy this heartwarming story of a strong woman forging a new life.” Sunnie Reviews

Elinor by Shannon McNear Daughters of the Lost Colony of Roanoke

This book was very moving and poignant.  It was a wonderful historical novel, that kept you wondering what would happen next and how the story would end.  It was about life in the late 1500's.  I think I am glad I didn't live then, forging the way for those that were yet to come.

This book was a true page-turner.  It was a wonderful story with good and bad times.  The book description says the book is riveting.  Yes, it totally was.  The book tells of loss, and actual historical events as it moves along.  The story brings in the trust and reliance of God and is a great book for Christian fiction appreciators.  The characters were believable and realistic in their search of a place to practice religious and other freedoms.  I totally enjoyed the book and felt it was well written and presented history in a very well researched manner.

Saving Mrs. Roosevelt by Candice Sue Patterson Heroines of WWII

This book was soooo good!  Oh my gosh, I couldn't put it down.  I enjoyed it so much.  Shirley Davenport is determined to help in the War effort and enlists in the Coast Guard which gives single women a chance to serve.  And serve she does!  Just not as she expected to.

As the story continues, Shirley finds she has no idea whom she can trust and depend on.  This book will keep you on your toes and you too will wonder who are the good guys and what will happen next.  This book, has romance, family relationship issues and lots of intrigue.

I highly recommend this book.  Definitely a most worthwhile read!

The Little Women Devotional by Rachel Dodge

The picture on the cover tells it all!  You will love this devotional. If you grew up with Louisa Mae Alcott, you will enjoy the insights and thoughts in this devotional as well as the artwork throughout this book.

Each chapter of the book has its own little devotional with a applicable scripture that fits the story in the book and an application that you can use in your personal life.  There is also a prayer included.  The devotionals combine together so well with the actual book and are simply delightful and heartwarming.

It's very uplifting and we can all use that!

Marry Me Millie by Amy Lillard Paradise Valley Series

I was so excited to read the first book in this new series by Amy Lillard.  I just love everything I read from this author and really enjoyed this sweet romance.  This story is based in Missouri.  Millie is an Amish woman who has just experienced the tragic event of her husband's death.  And then she discovers a baby is on the way.

I loved the matchmaker. Sylvie, a member of the Widows Club, who has plans for Millie and Henry, but does Millie want this?  There are some sweet humorous lines in the book which I really enjoyed reading.  And if you don't know anything about Whoopie Pies, you will soon!  Plus there are some recipes at the end and I am going to make some Whoopie Pies of my own!  This is an enjoyable start to a new series and I can't wait for the next book!

The Memory Quilt by Lenora Worth (The Shadow Lake Series Book 1)

I totally enjoyed this story.  I loved Abigail who seemed very trusting despite not knowing if "Jonah" was a good guy or not so good.  She has a very protective nature and I love her patience and kindness.  I think she is a really kind hearted person and I love the little bit of mystery and intrigue as the story progresses.  You will want to continue reading just to find out who Jonah really is.  This is a very enjoyable book.

A Christmas Secret by Cindy M. Amos, Robin Densmore Fuson, Jo Huddleston, Martha Rogers, Darlia Sawyer, Marilyn Turk

This is a compilation of short stories by several authors.  I was happy to read the story written by Marilyn Turk.  The specific title being Railroaded in Key West.  There are two characters using different names to hide their identity as the take part in the safe  arrival of the first train in Key West.  This was based on historical events that occurred in Key West.  There was some intrigue and it was interesting to see the characters as they interact together, not knowing of the other's true identity and purpose for being there.  You will enjoy this.  I look forward to reading the other stories.  I am sure they are also wonderful stories to add to the Christmas Season Spirit!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from one of the authors and was not required to give a positive review.  All thoughts are my own.
